In Motion Theatre
We’ve collaborated with Scots theatre company In Motion on a range of projects exploring stigma, based on people’s real experiences.
The arts provide a great platform for discussing mental health and exploring stigma and discrimination more widely.
Since 2020, we’ve been working with In Motion Theatre to get creative with different groups.
Established in October 2016, In Motion Theatre is a Scottish based touring new-writing theatre company. Set-up and led by producer, playwright and actress Lisa Nicoll, alongside a team of associates, the company creates and tours both its own work and the work of others across Scotland. Lisa focuses on contemporary new stories which are often inspired by place, people or true stories.
Here’s more information on some of our collaborative projects.
The Voice Behind the Picture
In 2020, 14 writers worked with Lisa to create stories/monologues around the theme "The Voice Behind the Picture". Over a series of live and recorded workshops and one to one development, conducted over five weeks, each writer created a five- minute story that moves us beyond what people see, hear or take at face value. Each actor then recorded one of the monologues in their own home under lockdown conditions. Working in partnership with Lisa, we supported the participant recruitment, promotion, and co-hosted some events including the online launch of film performances and post-show discussion.
The Voice Behind the Scenes
In this film, the Voice Behind the Picture, the writers share their reflections on being part of this project.
Hidden Women
In 2020, inspired by a project led by See Me volunteer Susan Falconer, 10 women in their 50s worked with Lisa to create monologues expressing something important or personal to them. The monologues are both humorous and moving portrayals of interior lives that are not always shared.
Veteran's Voices
In 2022-23 Lisa worked with six veterans or family members of veterans to create individual monologues which were released as a series of podcasts. This podcast was created alongside See Me’s The Guard campaign.
