Slipping Through the Net

Slipping Through the Net was a participatory creative project and exhibition involving members of the peer support group Sarah’s Sanctuary supported by artist Jane Harlington.

Sarah’s Sanctuary

Sarah’s Sanctuary is a peer support group for people bereaved by suicide based in Stornoway. Through this project participants created this collection of creative work exhibited at An Lanntair in December 2024. Participants also wrote a blog to accompany their project: Sarah's Sanctuary Western Isles

Participants reflection:

We agreed that we had been looking for a purpose in our loss. Suicide bereavement can often feel very meaningless, especially if the person who died is blamed rather than looking at how mental health services could be improved. Taking part in the art project gave us a sense of purpose. For some of us this might have been the first time that we saw anything positive and creative coming out of our loss.
